Day 37

Last night, the team spent the night at Sunshine's apartment. It was a very interesting night! The highlight of it for me was the arrival of a group of girls to see Sunshine and his roommate. They entered the apartment bragging that they had just come back from cow tipping! That, along with the world champion step team in the apartment above the guys made for an interesting night!

Today was a much better travel day for the guys than yesterday. They woke at 8, a little later than usual. After packing up the joggers, they were on the road by 9 this morning. Sunshine asked if it would be okay to run with them for a bit, and the guys happily accepted his offer. Sunshine ended up running just over 12 miles with the team! Durkin said that this was a ballin' effort, especially since he would have to run 12 miles back to SAU. Durkin said that his presence really helped the day's mileage go by a lot quicker, as they only had about 9 more miles to run after Sunshine left.

Arriving in Lewisville at about 1pm, they found a BBQ joint that was said to be really good. When they got to the restaurant, it was to close at 1 pm, because it is normally only open for lunch in the town. After talking with the guy, he kept the restaurant open so that they could grab some grub. Durkin said that they had some really good pulled pork sandwiches. They also had some of Camps Classic Old Fashioned Beef Jerky, that Durkin said he enjoyed as well.

They also ran into a gentleman named Terry Ford. Terry approached the gang asking if they were the guys he saw crossing the MIssissippi River with a video camera. They got to talking, and Terry really liked what the team was doing. He made a generous contribution to the travel fund for the team, and they could not have been more grateful. Thank you Terry!

After meeting Terry and getting some food, they began the search for a place to sleep. They stopped into Gypsy Chicks, an antique store in town. Durkin asked for directions to the police station as they were looking for a place to set up shop. The store owner helped them out immediately, and ended up offering them the duck house that they rent out to hunters. The guys graciously accepted. The store owner said that there would be no food in the house, so they would need to get to the grocery store. Without knowing the team's names, or the guys knowing hers, she gave them the keys to her truck and they were off! Andy drove the truck, and admitted that it was the largest vehicle he has ever driven! At the store, they purchased a few things, including cookies. After getting back, they looked at the receipt, and found they were overcharged $20 for the cookies! They went back and were reimbursed for the overcharge. After the store, Gayther and Jana Crank, and their daughters Gayla and April (antique store and duck house owners), took the team to the Homegirls Inn. This place had the absolute best double bacon cheeseburger Durkin has ever eaten. It was a great feast!

A few other highlights from the day...Gayther asked the guys if they wanted a tour of the farm, and they quickly agreed. They had never been on a farm with cows, and Durkin admitted that the tour was really interesting. Andy also enjoyed it, as he had never "checked on the cows" before! The duck house they are sleeping in tonight has 16 beds. 16!!!! Andy has decided to spend one hour in each bed tonight, rotating through his share of the 16 beds!

The team will get to sleep right after a few games of pool. Durkin said he was about to work Andy real hard, and then get some rest. Keep movin!
